Dean and ken
DOB: 27/07/2022
Sex: Male
Breed: Scottish Fold Mix
Coat: Short
Microchip: 956000015007153 & 956000015930806
Location: Narre Warren South, VIC
Dean and Ken are looking for a foster home.
Dean and Ken are sweet but very special boys who are a part of our perma-squishy program. This means that Squishies will be responsible for managing their care and the cost of their veterinary care for the entirety of their lives.
Both boys were born with myelin deficiency which means that they lack coordination, shake and sometimes experience seizure activity. This usually looks like staring straight ahead, walking in circles and is something we manage with daily medication. Their condition won’t get worse but it won’t get better either. Neither know that there is anything different, they just know that sometimes they fall over instead of moving forward.
Dean loves to trill and chat to the humans. He can be quick when he wants to be and will sometimes run at full speed to get away from you if he knows it’s time for bed. He is so affectionate and loves being cuddled. He will flop onto your chest, purr his little heart out while making biscuits on your arm. When it’s dinner time he will smooch your legs while you get the food ready.
Kenny is much quieter than his brother and being a Scottish Fold he does have some joint issues that likely impact him. To help him with this we give him some supplements in a tubey treat each day that he licks up at olympic speeds. He also loves a scritch on the head and has recently found the joys of toasting his bones on the heated blanket, he can lay there for hours.
They’re happy to entertain themselves throughout the day if their foster family were at work but would be equally good working from home buddies. They snooze on their bed (always cuddled up) and then have a good wrestle and chomp on each other before having another nap for good measure. Both enjoy a regular brush but Dean will help you by licking your arm while you do it (so helpful).
Both boys are great at using their puppy pads to go to the toilet. They can use disposable or washable ones so will be happy to do what suits their new foster home. They consistently use the same space but can have the occasional accident (nearby) so an understanding home that has a space with tiles or floorboards rather than carpet would be best.
They would be more than happy to share their foster home with other cat/s. They are not bothered by feline friends and are even tolerant of a bop on the head if they get too close to a grumpy cat. They haven’t lived with a dog for a long time but a calm, cat-friendly dog who will give them space may be fine.
Squishies is looking for a foster home in Melbourne who is initially willing to commit to them for at least three months but the longer, the better. Ideally we want to find them a permanent foster home so that they have their own family to love them for the rest of their life. While the boys are not difficult to care for (or to love) Squishies will be there to support their new carers however they need.
If you are considering fostering these boys we would love to talk to you and set up a chance for you to come and meet them in Narre Warren South.
CLOUD
DOB: 10/02/2020
Sex: Female
Breed: Persian
Coat: Short
Microchip: 900164001874534
Location: Melbourne CBD, VIC
Adoption Fee: $800
Don’t let her cracking case of RBF fool you, she is a bubbly, cheeky ball of fluff.
Since coming into care Cloud has been nothing but a joy. She is polite and laid back but keen to come and check on you throughout the day and night. She’s only just started to sleep on the bed with the rest of the family but enjoys excursions back to the living room so she would love a home where she has this option too.
She is still young at six years old and loves to play with a string or ribbon. While she doesn’t mind being picked up for cuddles a couple of times a day she is a cat who would prefer to hang out with you rather than be carried around the place. She would prefer a home with older children who understand these boundaries or an all adult home.
Her coat has not been difficult to manage but will need consistent brushing and combing to ensure she remains pain free in her floofier times. She will also need a family who are able to ensure her face stays nice and clean with a quick wipe throughout the week.
She has been very respectful of the other cats in her foster home but hasn’t gone out of her way to make friends. She would be happy to co-exist with another friendly feline but would be more than happy to have a family all to herself.
While in care she had a dental which unfortunately included removing a few of her remaining teeth. She only has five left but manages both dry and wet food just fine, although she has been choosy in which ones she will eat.
Cloud is desexed, microchipped, up to date with her vaccinations and parasite treatments in addition to her recent dental. Cloud is in care in Melbourne CBD and is considering homes within a reasonable driving distance.
NOSHU
DOB: 08/10/2024
Sex: Female
Breed: British Shorthair
Coat: Short
Microchip: 956000016763965
Location: Harkness, VIC
Adoption Fee: $350
Noshu is a sweet, little lady who is still coming out of her shell.
While we do not know exactly how her life has been, we know that Noshu has not been offered the kind and caring environment all cats deserve before being surrendered to one of our pound partners. Despite this she has been happy to share her sweet purrs and over her time in foster care she has begun to meow and play with her foster mum.
She is currently sharing a foster home with another cat from her surrendering home and has definitely lived with other cats before. While she is used to it, she has been a little bossy to Lotus and would be better suited to a home as an only cat where she can reign supreme. She has not met a dog while in our care but we feel that she would prefer a home without them at this stage.
Her new home must go at her pace and understand that things like televisions, vacuums, washing machines etc are new to her and she needs patience to settle into a home environment. For this reason a home with young children will be too much for her at this stage in her life. A home with older, respectful children or one without would be great.
Noshu is desexed, microchipped and up to date with her vaccinations and parasite treatments. She is in care in Harkness and taking applications from Victorian homes only. Noshu’s adoption fee has been reduced from our usual fee as our pound partner has covered the cost of the majority of her vet work.
MOCHI
DOB: 12/03/2023
Sex: Male
Breed: Exotic Shorthair
Coat: Short
Microchip: 978142000037962
Location: Malvern, VIC
Adoption Fee: $800
Meet Mochi
Mochi has been in our care since January after his previous family were unable to house him. He has just turned three and is now ready and looking for his forever home.
Mochi is so easy to love! He is happy to spend time with you, hang out on the couch or watch the world go by through the window. He is happy to entertain himself when you are busy but loves to keep you company when you have the time. Once he’s settled in he is happy to explore, especially places that are up high like benches and tables. Mochi likes to bond to his humans so a home without other animals is what he is looking for. With people he’s a lover not a fighter, he would love nothing more than curl up and sleep with you all night, even if he does have a bit of a snore going on. He lets trusted people give him belly rubs and will reward you with lots of kisses.
While in care he has had some instances of inappropriate toileting on things left on the floor. This has been easily managed by not leaving material items (towels, clothes etc) on the floor and by providing him both a litter tray with litter and one with a puppy pad. These instances have been infrequent but we want him to go to a home that understands that this may happen while settling in. Squishies is happy to provide advice and support at any point in Mochi’s life around this. He is easy to care for but needs consistency! This means regular brushing (he’s recently had a groom) as well as cleaning his eyes at least once per day. He prefers dry food but has some chosen wet food that he likes to eat, however he’s always up for a treat.
While in our care he has had a scale and polish to get his teeth gleaming. He is of course, desexed, microchipped and up to date with his vaccinations and parasite treatments. He is in care in Malvern and taking applications from Victorian homes only.
WISTERIA - ON TRIAL
DOB: 12/02/2020
Sex: Female
Breed: British Shorthair
Coat: Short
Microchip: 956000012131591
Location: Melbourne CBD, VIC
Adoption Fee: $800
After five months of recovery, decompression, and simply being herself, Wisteria has shown exactly who she is. She is a stocky, pugnacious, irresistibly cute lilac British Shorthair–turned–faux Scottish Fold with an exceptionally sunny disposition. Through polyps, pneumonia, breathing difficulties, a single broken tooth, extensive medications, and her daisy collar, she has remained genuinely happy and good-natured at all times.
During her time in care, Wisteria underwent four procedures: one BOAS surgery, two Total Ear Canal Ablations, and a tooth extraction (there were no others left to remove). She has charmed every vet and nurse she has encountered and thinks they’re just there to give her lots of pats. When she arrived vets noted a heart murmur, however, since being in care this has all but disappeared. It is likely this was a result of her poor health and the strain on her body, it should be monitored in future health checks but is not likely to cause her any issues going forward. Wisteria does have arthritis in one of her elbows and has begun daily supplements to support her comfort.
Despite all of this medical information, she is now fully recovered and ready for her permanent home.
Wisteria is a complete social butterfly and is determined to be friends with everyone, including the grumpiest cat in the house. She would love friendly feline companionship in her new home as she always wants to keep the cats company. While she hasn’t lived with dogs in foster care, she may like a calm, friendly dog if introduced slowly.
As a result of the TECA procedures, Wisteria can’t hear very much. She has now discovered her voice and sings the song of her people, particularly after lights-out. Her appetite is excellent, with a strong preference for wet food over dry which make sense with her lack of teeth. She is confident and curious, never shy or fearful, and happily explores her environment, climbing onto bookcases, tables, chairs, desks, beds, and anything else she can access.
The world is Wisteria’s fun house. She delights in cat toys, ribbons, string, and any packing or wrapping paper left within reach. Recently, she has also mastered the art of flopping into an upside-down sploot and waving her paws in the air to entice you to rub her tummy.
Wisteria is an absolute delight and is ready to be the perfect addition to her new home. She is desexed, microchipped and up to date with her vaccinations and parasite treatments. Wisteria is currently in care in Melbourne CBD and is taking applications within reasonable driving distance of her foster home.
