Dean and Ken are looking for a foster home.
Dean and Ken are sweet but very special boys who are a part of our perma-squishy program. This means that Squishies will be responsible for managing their care and the cost of their veterinary care for the entirety of their lives.
Both boys were born with myelin deficiency which means that they lack coordination, shake and sometimes experience seizure activity. This usually looks like staring straight ahead, walking in circles and is something we manage with daily medication. Their condition won’t get worse but won’t get better either. Neither know that there is anything different they just know that sometimes they fall over instead of moving forward.
Dean loves to trill and chat to the humans. He can be quick when he wants to be and will sometimes run at full speed to get away from you if he knows it’s time for bed. He is so affectionate and loves being cuddled. He will flop onto your chest, purr his little heart out while making biscuits on your arm. When it’s dinner time he will smooch your legs while you get the food ready.
Kenny is much quieter than his brother and being a Scottish Fold he does have some joint issues that likely impact him. To help him with this we give him some supplements in a tubey treat each day that he licks up at olympic speeds. He also loves a scritch on the head and has recently found the joys of toasting his bones on the heated blanket, he can lay there for hours.
They’re happy to entertain themselves throughout the day if their foster family were at work but would be equally good working from home buddies. They snooze on their bed (always cuddled up) and then have a good wrestle and chomp on each other before having another nap for good measure. Both enjoy a regular brush but Dean will help you by licking your arm while you do it (so helpful).
Both boys are great at using their puppy pads to go to the toilet. They can use disposable or washable ones so will be happy to do what suits their new foster home. They consistently use the same space but can have the occasional accident (nearby) so an understanding home that has a space with tiles or floorboards rather than carpet would be best.
They would be more than happy to share their foster home with other cat/s. They are not bothered by feline friends and are even tolerant of a bop on the head if they get too close to a grumpy cat. They haven’t lived with a dog for a long time but a calm, cat-friendly dog who will give them space may be fine.
Squishies is looking for a foster home in Melbourne who is willing to commit to them for at least three months but the longer, the better. Ideally we want to find them a permanent foster home so that they have their own family to love them for the rest of their life. While the boys are not difficult to care for (or to love) Squishies will be there to support their new carers however they need.
If you are considering fostering these boys we would love to talk to you and set up a chance for you to come and meet them in Narre Warren South.
WISTERIA
DOB: 12/02/2020
Sex: Female
Breed: British Shorthair
Coat: Short
Microchip: 956000012131591
Location: Melbourne CBD, VIC
Adoption Fee: $800
After five months of recovery, decompression, and simply being herself, Wisteria has shown exactly who she is. She is a stocky, pugnacious, irresistibly cute lilac British Shorthair–turned–faux Scottish Fold with an exceptionally sunny disposition. Through polyps, pneumonia, breathing difficulties, a single broken tooth, extensive medications, and her daisy collar, she has remained genuinely happy and good-natured at all times.
During her time in care, Wisteria underwent four procedures: one BOAS surgery, two Total Ear Canal Ablations, and a tooth extraction (there were no others left to remove). She has charmed every vet and nurse she has encountered and thinks they’re just there to give her lots of pats. When she arrived vets noted a heart murmur, however, since being in care this has all but disappeared. It is likely this was a result of her poor health and the strain on her body, it should be monitored in future health checks but is not likely to cause her any issues going forward. Wisteria does have arthritis in one of her elbows and has begun daily supplements to support her comfort.
Despite all of this medical information, she is now fully recovered and ready for her permanent home.
Wisteria is a complete social butterfly and is determined to be friends with everyone, including the grumpiest cat in the house. She would love friendly feline companionship in her new home as she always wants to keep the cats company. While she hasn’t lived with dogs in foster care, she may like a calm, friendly dog if introduced slowly.
As a result of the TECA procedures, Wisteria can’t hear very much. She has now discovered her voice and sings the song of her people, particularly after lights-out. Her appetite is excellent, with a strong preference for wet food over dry which make sense with her lack of teeth. She is confident and curious, never shy or fearful, and happily explores her environment, climbing onto bookcases, tables, chairs, desks, beds, and anything else she can access.
The world is Wisteria’s fun house. She delights in cat toys, ribbons, string, and any packing or wrapping paper left within reach. Recently, she has also mastered the art of flopping into an upside-down sploot and waving her paws in the air to entice you to rub her tummy.
Wisteria is an absolute delight and is ready to be the perfect addition to her new home. She is desexed, microchipped and up to date with her vaccinations and parasite treatments. Wisteria is currently in care in Melbourne CBD and is taking applications within reasonable driving distance of her foster home.
